Wardrobe Styling

Attention fashion shoppers: This career's for you. If you're one of the many who couldn't help salivating over the couture covered in "The Devil Wears Prada," consider a career in wardrobe styling. Wardrobe stylists have the awesome responsibility and privilege of creating a wardrobe for actors, TV personalities, and anyone else with the money and/or celebrity status to hire them. When working with fictional characters, wardrobe stylists read scripts and look at storyboards to determine what items are required and how to procure them within the budget. Wardrobe stylists are experts on major designers such as Valentino, Chanel, Versace, and Prada, consulting on everything from shirts and shoes to belts and bangles. They're always shopping and returning, arranging fittings, and staying on top of the latest trends. And since wardrobe styling is typically a freelance career, stylists must manage their own business, which may include invoicing clients, handling advances and budgets, and keeping precise records of expenditures. To best way to become a wardrobe stylist is by first working as an assistant or intern for an established stylist. Coursework in fashion can also help you develop a portfolio to sell your wardrobe styling services. Think fashion forward, and consider a career in wardrobe styling. Side bonus: You can keep some of the clothes!
