Salon Schools - Salon Programs

salon schools

offer an artistically grounded education in hair, skin, and nails, as well as in-depth exploration into the science behind beauty techniques. With training in salon programs, students learn a variety of methods of making people look and feel beautiful.

What You'll Learn
Salon programs provide practical and theoretical experience in hair styling, Esthetics, nail technology, and more. Salon programs also incorporate instruction in industry regulations, anatomy and physiology, marketing, business ethics, and salon management. Training from salon schools prepares aspiring cosmetologists to sit for state licensing and national certification exams.

Degree Types

Salon schools offer diploma, certificate, and associate degree programs. Full cosmetology programs usually take less than two years to complete, while esthetics or nail technology programs only require about six months of training.

Career Paths
As salons become increasingly competitive, well-qualified cosmetologists who can perform a wide range of services are in the greatest demand. With training from salon schools, you could become an Esthetician, Hair Stylist, nail technician, makeup artist, and more. You could even manage your own salon.

Job Outlook
According to Job Demand in the Cosmetology Industry, 2007, a survey by the National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences (NACCAS), nearly three-quarters of the salons that tried to fill positions were not able to find qualified applicants. In other words, the supply of skilled professionals in the industry continues to fall short of the demand. NACCAS also reports that full-service cosmetologists earned an average salary of $35,966 (excluding tips).

Licensing and Accreditation Information
NACCAS currently accredits approximately 1,300 institutions, which serve more than 120,000 students. These salon schools offer more than 20 different courses and programs of study that fall under NACCAS' scope of accreditation.
All states require cosmetologists to be licensed. Find your state licensing board's curriculum and exam requirements here: http://naccas.org/Pages/StateBoardLicensingInformation.aspx
