esthetics involves working with Skin Care. Estheticians provide Facials, makeup applications, and hair removal. This skin care career involves working with many different people of which have different habits and different skin types. Some schools may use the aesthetics spelling to refer to the same course of study.
What You'll Learn
Skin care students at esthetics school learn many different parts of the facial process. From facial massage to product knowledge to cleansing to exfoliation, and more, esthetics school will teach skin care students all the need to know to be able to properly work with faces of all different types, as well as various treatments. Skin care students also take some theory classes, basic chemistry, anatomy and physiology, and other science classes that are necessary for an esthetics program.
Degree Types
After completing the specified hours for an esthetics program, skin care students can earn their esthetics certificate. With an esthetics certificate, students will have more of an opportunity to get desired jobs because they can prove that they've had the proper skin care training and are skilled to go out and practice on clients.
Career Paths
Those in an esthetics career may choose the path that suits them the most. You'll find these skin care specialists in spas, salons, or their own businesses. Additionally, estheticians may choose to become makeup artists, which can be found in department stores, fashion shows, movie sets, and other locations. Estheticians can work in cosmetic research or as freelancers for many different events, including weddings.
Job Outlook
An esthetics career may prove to be lucrative for those interested in skin care. The industry is ever-expanding, as individuals go to great measures these days to keep their skin healthy and young. The opportunities available in top spas and salons may see more competition, but those who have received an esthetics education have a better shot at securing jobs.

Esthetics professionals must become licensed before they can actually practice. The licensing requirements may differ from state to state so it's important to check with your local governing board before you make any concrete decisions.
