| Before They Had Hair Guru Beauty Careers... |
| by Ysolt Usigan |
Before they were the hair gurus that you've come to know them to be, what were they up to? From education to experience, just how did these hair extraordinaires kick their Beauty Careers off? And now that they're styling superstars, what's in store?
A Cutting Edge Style'nista
Hair Guru: Peter Ishkhans
Where is Peter Now: With a flair for fashion, as well as home decor, Peter Ishkhans seems to have mastered two fields of style. And he does this with a cutting edge approach of combining aesthetics with balance in his beauty career. It's no wonder his client roster ranges from rock and roll legends to royalty.
Not only is Peter the owner of the Bhava Salon in West Hollywood, he's also an expert in all things hair. The expertise of this hair guru on the hottest industry trends makes him a viable source to ask any hair-related question, which is why this trained portrait artist performs consultations by studying face structures to create a balance and form on his clients' overall appearance.
Because of his keen eye paired with the desire to provide advice, Peter has appeared lending his expertise on shows like "Split Endz," "Style Her Famous," and "How Do I Look" (on the Style Network), as well as "Oprah," "America's Next Top Model," "E! Emmy Countdown," "Extreme Makeover," and "Head 2 Toe." Not many can boast those credentials of their beauty careers.
Beyond giving hair advice, from time to time Peter would regale clients with fashion and interior decorating tips. Cutting edge stylist, fashion guru, and decorator are titles Peter has been referred to as he incorporates his many talents to give each client an experience they won't forget -- and it's not just about hair, it's a lifestyle.
Peter's Claim to Fame: A client roster that lists Eva Longoria, Eva Mendes, Jessica Biel, Alyssa Milano, the Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson, and Robert Plant
Before Peter was a Hair Guru: Peter began his career 27 years ago in London. He eventually moved to New York in 1988 and worked at a top salon on Madison Avenue. From then on, his resume lists positions as "top stylist" at the salon in Bergdorf Goodman, market mastermind of Frizz Ease products (single-handedly making the line a fashion staple for women all over the world), and stylist at other high-end salons.
Not Just a Stylist, Also an Educator
Hair Guru: Tony Promiscuo
Where is Tony Now: The renowned stylist has been the longtime owner of the upscale Godiva Salon in Atlanta's Buckhead neighborhood. This year, Tony is celebrating his 25th anniversary in the business. Tony is known around town as one of the most innovative stylists. In fact, he was one of the first stylists to introduce thermal reconditioning and hair extensions to the market at his salon.
Tony is so familiar with issues pertaining to beauty careers and the hair industry, that he frequently lectures as a member of the Paul Mitchell elite educational team around the country. Accepting 12-14 speaking engagements at seminars, workshops, and conferences throughout North America and Europe, Tony seeks to share his experiences with hairstylists and aspiring hairstylists worldwide. He claims his mission as an educator is to inspire crativity and expand people's knowledge of art, design, and the salon business.
Tony's Claim to Fame: Tony's recent accomplishments include being appointed as a master associate and winning the prestigious position of Platform Team Member for John Paul Mitchell Systems. In May of 2004, Tony conducted a seminar on learning systems and advanced presentation skills. His audience consisted of Leaders from Regis Corporation, owner of 10,000 salons worldwide. There were representatives from the fields of finance, management, and training present, too.
Tony is also member of 365, and The Salon Owners Association (TSA). Both are international organizations committed to the growth and development of the industry. Beauty careers are all about getting educated and expanding your network.
Before Tony was a Hair Guru: With education as one of Tony's main avenues to success, he practiced in the past what he preaches today. As a graduate of the International University of cosmetology, Tony furthered his education with Vidal Sassoon in London thereafter. Now as a member of John Paul Mitchell Systems elite education team, he has worked with some of the world's top hair fashion designers including Richard Dalton, Steven Moody, Robert Cromeans, Jeanne Braa, and John and Suzanne Chadwick.
Tony opened Godiva Salon in 1981, and over the past two decades, has built a loyal clientele who appreciate the salon's extraordinary service and the balanced and artistic approach to Hair Design that it practices.
