The majority of beauty programs offer instruction in multiple modalities - Barbering, esthetics, hair design, makeup, nails, wardrobe styling, etc. -- all with the goal of enhancing natural beauty. At beauty school, students have 24/7 access to the resources necessary to formulate a personal philosophy of beauty, as well as the tools needed to turn that philosophy into practice.
What You'll Learn In beauty school, you'll take courses that directly relate to your specialty, such as hair styling, hair coloring, makeup application, facials, hair removal, manicuring, or pedicuring. Beauty programs also consist of coursework in anatomy and physiology, chemistry, health and safety, and the business and ethics of beauty.
Degree Types Beauty programs typically lead to a diploma, certificate, or even an associate degree, all of which prepare beauticians to sit for state licensing exams.
Career Paths With a degree in beauty, you may become an Esthetician, hair stylist, nail technician, makeup artist, spa director ... and the list goes on. The majority of beauticians work in beauty salons, but Beauty Careers can also be found in day and resort spas, residential care homes, and department stores.
